Over 80 Brown alumni and friends gathered in Newport Coast to socialize, eat, drink and hear Dean Jha speak about developments in the pandemic including the efficacy of vaccine mandates, the utility of each vaccine (spoiler alert - they all work, they are all safe, immunity from vaccination is enhanced regardless of whether you had COVID in the past, and getting a booster six months after the original Pfizer shot for those in the highest risk groups is a good idea - but of course talk to your doctor first). This was Brown Club OC's first large, in-person faculty event since January 2020, but certainly not its last! Stay tuned for news about upcoming events.

Meeting Dr. Jha was really a pleasure! He took any and all questions, and gave some great answers. The audience was every bit as good as our guest, too, including a number of MD's, some with experience treating covid. The conversation ranged through a lot of public health issues beyond covid, and Dr. Jha told us all to try to meet those who doubted science where they are - listen and understand, and do not expect to persuade. We had a great location, the weather cooperated, and it was really great to see everyone again. Renewed my faith in the future after this long cold winter of covid!

A wonderful evening with a delightful outdoor setting (COVID safe). Dr. Jha was informative, wise and witty. It was great to see and hear him in person.

My husband Steve and I ('22 parents) thoroughly enjoyed this informative and well-run event in such a lovely venue. Dr. Jha has been such an important and balanced voice throughout the pandemic., and it was a true thrill to meet him! We appreciate the parent inclusion, and look forward to the next event. - Karin Riches
What a wonderful and meaningful event. Events like this really give us a sense of the value of the Ivy League community here in Orange County and will be remembered for years to come. I appreciated the opportunity to be a guest and learn of the great work Dean Jha is doing in public health.
