Join Laurel Bestock, professor of Egyptology, Archaelogy, and Art History at Brown University at the Bowers Museum this Saturday, June 13 (1:30 -3:30pm). Professor Bestock not only teaches at Brown, but it’s also her alma mater. Drawing on newly examined excavation records, Professor Bestock reveals new evidence challenging long-held assumptions about the origins of Egyptian kingship.
She will take us on a fascinating journey to Abydos, the burial place of Egypt’s earliest kings and one of the key sites for understanding how ancient Egypt became a unified kingdom. Discover how Egypt’s earliest kings were buried in grand desert tombs, while their most impressive monuments rose nearby along the Nile floodplain. Why do only traces of most of these massive mudbrick structures remain today? Were they intentionally destroyed after each king’s death, or is there another story?
Click here to purchase your tickets from the Bowers Museum. General Admission is $15.
And thanks to long-time Brown Club Board Member, Chiyo Imai Rowe for sharing this event.
