About the play...
One of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor follows the vain and mischievous Sir John Falstaff as he attempts to court two clever married women at the same time—only to become the target of their increasingly hilarious revenge. This production is as much about experiencing Shakespeare in an immersive setting as it is about the enjoying the performance and music. See the image above for an idea of the theatre set-up.
This New Swan Productions adaptation, The Merry Wives of Windsor Cove, transports the story to a 1950s Southern California surf town, blending Shakespeare’s wit with OC beach-party fun. It’s an entertaining fusion! There will be live music performed by a skiffle band, which is a folk style that combines guitars, banjo, washboard, bass, and simple instruments.
